| Which
suffix to choose:
Most people will type the address they are
looking for followed by .com, if it is a UK based company or service
then .co.uk is the next common suffix, followed by .biz .info .net
and .org.
.com
Most companies will register .com
versions of their chosen name, as this is the most prestigious
address and is relevant world wide.
.co.uk
However, most uk based
companies/people would register the .co.uk versions as this
singles out their uk site from others around the world, this can
also provide better rankings in uk search engines. Furthermore, as
members of nominet we get a discount on these names which we pass
on to our customers, making it even better value.
.biz .info .org &
.net
These are less common at present,
but as names are getting scarce more of these names are being
purchased as they are one of the original suffixes and still
highly recognised world wide.
For the individual just the one
name and suffix will be sufficient, however it makes more sense if
you are a business to ‘protect’ your domain name by
registering all or most of the above so there is no confusion
between you and maybe a competitor (this is by no means
necessary).
Once you own
your name what can you do with it?
We can provide a
Forwarding service so
that when someone types your chosen domain name e.g. 'fishwiz.co.uk’
they are directed to ‘www.users.hostdomain.co.uk/~fishing01/’
instantly, furthermore with our forwarding service your chosen
domain name will remain in the persons address bar without
revealing your ‘true’ address.
Included in this service is
Email forwarding, so
instead of telling someone they can Email you at 'joe.smith4@hostdomain.co.uk'
you can tell them your Email address is 'joe@fishwiz.co.uk.'
Again there are many other things
you can do with your purchased domain name, many of which are not
advertised or realised. Soon we will be offering our customers
advanced services making your Domain Name a better investment.
